China’s cross-border e-commerce trading partners have covered the world

At a press conference held by the State Council Information Office in Beijing on Oct. 24, Wang Shouwen, international trade negotiator and vice minister of the Ministry of Commerce, said that cross-border e-commerce accounted for 5 percent of China’s import and export of trade in goods in 2022, up from 1 percent in 2015. From January to September this year, the import and export value of cross-border e-commerce amounted to 1.7 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.4 percent, accounting for 5.5 percent of the share of import and export of trade in goods in the same period. The trading partners of China’s cross-border e-commerce have covered the world, and it is one of the countries with the most complete cross-border e-commerce ecosystem in the world.

He introduced that digital trade can be simply divided into two parts, one is the mode of trade characterized by digital delivery, the object of trade is data. The second is a mode of trade characterized by digital ordering, where usually cross-border e-commerce trades in goods, which are realized through digital ordering.

In the first case, the scale of China’s digitally deliverable services trade reached 2.51 trillion yuan in 2022, up 7.8 percent year-on-year, ranking fifth in the world. In the first eight months of this year, the scale of China’s digitally deliverable services trade reached 1.81 trillion yuan, up 10.4 percent year-on-year. From the second, according to customs statistics, the import and export value of cross-border e-commerce reached 2.11 trillion yuan in 2022, up 9.8 percent year-on-year, which is a record high.
